Selecting a Domain Name
The first thing that comes to mind when creating a blog is to get a good domain name. In this article, I have described why I think it is important to choose a good domain name in advance. I also explain how to choose a good domain name for your blog or site, followed by a number of domain names to choose general advice and rules.
Choosing a good domain name for your blog
I do not think you have strict rules on how to choose a domain name, so use the following as a guide to choosing your domain name:
Use keywords: Use keywords in the domain name that describe your site (if that’s useful). The domain name must indicate the nature of your product or service. A good domain name describes exactly what the site is about. It’s important for visitors to get an idea of what the site is about just about looking at the domain. For example, if your site is on sport, try to get a domain name like “www.abcsports .co” or “.com” or Cricket www.cricketsfan not ‘some thing else which does not show any interest in this field.
Easy to remember: A domain name must be easy to remember because visitors want to enter the domain name in your web browser to revisits and if they can not remember the domain name you risk losing potential traffic. It is also easier to spread the word by mouth when the domain name is easy to remember.
Keep them short domain name: A domain name must be short with less than 10 characters. It also helps to “Easy to remember” if the name is short. Although it is extremely difficult to obtain domain names that are short these days. In short, you do not want to end up with a super long domain name like “www.abcdef…….zzzz.com”. If the name is too long, it becomes confusing and the name can be spelled in the browser.
If necessary, use hyphens: Use a hyphen (-) between words as needed for your domain name. If you are “www.abcdef.com”, try “www.abc-def.com”. The use of hyphens between the words sometimes helps readability. It can also help in the ranking of the search engines.
Make Writing: Try to get a domain name that’s easy to write. Easy to write domain names are good for the brand.
Think local: If your business locals consider adding your region, city or state the domain name (eg londonmagzines.com). Just doing it makes sense.
Domain extension: Try to get the Top Level Domain (TLD) “.com” extension because it’s the most popular. It is also the extension of the most accepted domain name. When people think of a website, your mind automatically pictures “domain-name.com” as an address. You can also use “.net” “.co” extensions and “.org” if you can not find an “.com” extension.
